Frequently asked questions
How many questions do I need to answer correctly?
For citizenship, at least 17 out of 33. In the “Leben in Deutschland” test at the end of the orientation course, 15 correct answers are enough to pass the course.
What is the difference between the citizenship test and the “Leben in Deutschland” test?
Both use the same question catalogue. The “Leben in Deutschland” test concludes the orientation course. If you answer 17 or more questions correctly, your certificate also qualifies for your citizenship application.
Are these exactly the questions in the test?
Yes. All test questions come from the official BAMF catalogue. On this website you’ll find every question with its correct answer, and in the app you practise them with the mock test.
Can I take the test in another language?
For practising, yes: in the app you learn the questions and take the mock test in English, Turkish, Arabic or one of the other languages. Once you know the answers, switch to German and practise until you pass the mock test in German too. The official exam itself is only in German – this way you’re well prepared for it.
Which state questions will I get?
The questions for the state where you are registered as a resident. This applies even if you take the test in another state: what counts is your registered address (Anmeldung), not where the test centre is. Three of your state’s ten questions will be in your test.
